Why are There Evil People?

We’ve recently changed how we do our weekly blog posts. And we’ve appreciated all the great responses! So, we will keep it up. Instead of having a single, long-form post, we will link to a blog post, and then share the full content of two of our most popular recent social media posts.

I hope you enjoy the new format!

Why Doesn’t God Destroy All the Evil People?

I mean really, wouldn’t that make it easier for the rest of us? They just keep showing up. If God wiped them all out, we Jesus followers would have a lot more peace. So, back to the question. Why doesn’t God destroy all the evil people?

To answer that, let’s pose another question. According to the Bible, who are the evil people?

Click here to find out who the evil people are…and why we should think twice about desiring for God to destroy them all.

Social Media Post 1:

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
-John 5:24 ESV

Are you a Jesus follower who yet has a lingering fear of Judgement Day? Are you just not sure that you’ve done enough to make it past the judgment seat of Christ? Let me put your mind at ease. Although you will give an account of what you have said and what you have done with what God has given you, that giving of the account is not to decide whether or not you get into Heaven. Read the verse again. Jesus followers will NOT face judgement for their sins. Your sins have been forgiven and forgotten by God. God will not, He cannot condemn you…because in His eyes, through the blood of Christ, you are holy and righteous. The account we will give has nothing to do with access to Heaven, just the reward we have in Heaven. Heaven is the free gift to all who have come to Christ for salvation. No, Jesus follower, there is no risk of judgment or condemnation for you. Celebrate that God loves you and will welcome you into Heaven when you leave this life!

Social Media Post 2:

“Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”
-John 6:27-29 ESV

The “work of God” for salvation, for eternal life, is to believe in (which means to fully trust and follow) the One that God has sent, namely Jesus. Now, once we are following Jesus, there is more work to be done, but this work is done because we love God and want to be part of what He is doing to love and save others. Coming to Christ for salvation only happens because the Father draws us in (see verse 44) but believing in Christ is our decision to make. Be careful of the mistake the people were almost making here. They wanted to know what work they had to do to earn eternal life…and of course we can never do enough work to earn it. The only way is to do the “work of God” as Jesus said, to believe in Him whom God has sent. We don’t work to earn salvation; we work as our loving response to God’s gift of it through Christ.
